The situation

What has happened

The validation schedule lists the assessing competence unit for 22 September with a sample of twelve completed assessments drawn across the Footscray, Bendigo and online cohorts and tool version 3.4. The panel has a validation lead, a vocational expert, an assessment expert and an invited industry representative. You did not assess any learner in the sample. Two of the sampled assessments were marked by a trainer who has since had a complaint upheld about validation independence, so the Lead Assessor wants particular care with those judgements. The report must be drafted within five business days.

Your brief. Review the tool against the unit and mapping, review the sample against the rules of evidence and principles of assessment, contribute findings and recommendations in the session, and draft the Assessment Validation Report with actions, owners and due dates.

What to look for

Evidence guide

The student must show that they reviewed the tool against the unit, not just the sample, and applied the rules of evidence to each sampled decision with reasons. Look for constructive participation, recommendations that are specific and practical, and a report where every finding leads to an action with an owner. The flagged assessments must be handled with evidence, not assumption.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
